DEARBORN, Michigan – The Dearborn Free Press has made a decision to cancel news coverage about the controversial Pastor Terry Jones until further notice. This was a hard decision, since yesterday we experienced the highest web-traffic in the history of our publication. So, while other media outlets, TV stations, and news organizations are ramping up for minute by minute coverage of Dr. Terry Jones visit to our home town, we will remain silent. Sometimes actions speak louder than words. Think about it.
Enjoy the media frenzy for the next several days. We’ll be back after the dust settles to provide accurate, and in-depth coverage of the real Dearborn.

It shows the dedication, and most of all, that you don’t fall into the trap of media “garbage” only seeking sensations to print and broadcast.. Good choice..!!

Sticking your head in the sand and ignoring news-worthy events isn’t the job of respectable news media. Picking and choosing which stories are “worth” your time and coverage doesn’t change the fact that these events and news items are happening. Dearborn Free Press: FAIL.

I applaud this decision. Terry Jones is, in my opinion, someone looking for his 15 seconds of fame in the media. He has nothing credible to say. Ignore him.
If he truly is what he claims to be – a Christian pastor concerned with the rising influence of Islam in America – there are far better ways to channel his energy and efforts. Creating barriers to communication – the logical outcome of his antics – is not a solution.
Like Jones, I believe the ideology of Islam deserves scrutiny. Islam has not received its fair share of critical analysis, and has much to answer for. But questions must be raised in a manner of genuine inquiry, with respect, and allowance made for scholars of Islam to answer questions about critical issues. This is how dialog functions. Jones hopes to create dialog, but does just the opposite. He is an embarrassment to those who call themselves Christian.
