DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Michigan – Parents are invited to attend a free workshop about effective parenting techniques from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Dearborn Heights Montessori Center (DHMC). The school is located at 466 North John Daly in Dearborn Heights. Complimentary childcare is available.
The workshop on October 8 is a complimentary introduction to a series of six Parent Talk classes that will be offered on Wednesday evenings, beginning October 22, 2014. The three skills presented in this complimentary session will be valuable in all situations and are independent of the classes. Parents may find these tips so effective, however, that they will want to learn more.
Parent Talk was developed by renowned educator, author and speaker Chick Moorman. The six-session workshop will be facilitated by Dearborn Heights Montessori staff Sue Fitzpatrick and Heidi Gauger, They will guide parents and teachers through a series of exercises to identify words that empower and words that wound.
“These are effective strategies that you can implement immediately,” said Fitzpatrick. “Parents who attend take part in lively discussions and learn skills that help build healthy relationships with their children.”
Topics covered during the Parent Talk workshops include teaching responsibility, setting limits with choices, praising effectively, promoting independence and encouraging character.
There is a fee of $60 per person or $90 per couple to attend the six Wednesday evening workshops at DHMC that begin on October 22 and end on December 3, 2014.
For parents unable to attend the free introductory session on Wednesday, October 8 in Dearborn Heights, there will be alternate sessions held at Plymouth-Canton Montessori School on Tuesday, October 14 and Livonia Montessori School on Thursday, October 16. An alternate six-session Parent Talk series will be held at Plymouth-Canton Montessori on Tuesday evenings, beginning October 28, 2014.
