DEARBORN, Michigan – On September 24, 2014 at approximately 11:07 am, Dearborn Police and Fire units responded to the 4900 block of Jonathon for a reported house explosion. Upon arrival, they discovered a burned subject outside the residence. It was later determined the victim, a 77 year-old male, was the owner of the vacant house. He was working on the stove when the explosion occurred.
Due to the severity of the injuries, Dearborn Police units escorted Dearborn Rescue to Detroit Receiving Hospital. At this time, the victim is listed in critical condition. The Dearborn Fire Marshal is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.
Police said a small fire was extinguished within several minutes.
The house (near Michigan Avenue and Oakman) on Jonathan Street is still standing, but the explosion was “large enough to blow out the front door, side door and back windows.”
