DEARBORN, Michigan – Many of Michael D. Albano’s friends and colleagues have urged him to run for city council – due to his passion for the Dearborn community and civic involvement. So it was not surprising that On January 7, 2013 Michael requested petitions to run for Dearborn City Council in this year’s city elections. All city council seats are up for election this year, with the top 14 candidates in the August 6 primary election competing for seven council seats on November 5, 2013.

Albano, a 37-year Dearborn resident, and Edsel Ford High School and Henry Ford Community College graduate is a volunteer, and appointee to city committees, commissions, and task forces. Albano states that he is regularly involved in city issues to “pay the city back for the positive role Dearborn has played in his life”.
As a City of Dearborn Telecom Commissioner, Albano founded, and co-hosts the Telecom Show on CDTV, he is also a member of the Dearborn Federation of Neighborhood Association, and was an appointed member of the Dearborn Rental Task Force. Albano is also a volunteer for the grass roots group Save Our Pools, which works to keep Dearborn neighborhood, outdoor pools open.
For the past five years, he has been a regular guest writer for the Dearborn Press & Guide, and he is a regular guest writer for the Dearborn Patch.
His background includes wireless sales, management, operations, start-ups and turnarounds and he was Owner-Operator and founder of Communication Depot for 14 years. Since 2007, Albano has been a self-employed wireless consultant for research firms catering to financial institutions.
“At one time Dearborn set the standard for what other cities aspire to be, yet lately many people I encounter feel Dearborn is slipping,” said Albano. “Therefore, I will regularly meet with residents and businesses to gain their insight about improving Dearborn.”
Although city council is a part time position, Albano plans to devote whatever time and effort necessary to make sure that Dearborn is a city that will make residents and businesses proud.
“We need to do more to maintain residents, entice new residents and businesses, and help our struggling business districts fill vacancies, along with finding a way to eliminate west downtown Dearborn user-paid parking,” said Albano. “The city should also be focusing more upon grants and sponsorships to save pools, libraries, and help fund the Dearborn Historical Museum, which are part of the DNA that built Dearborn”.
In 2009, Albano was highly active in Dearborn Councilman Robert Abraham’s successful campaign for his third council term. “Mike has been extremely active and involved in many city issues,” said Abraham. “He understands how to move Dearborn forward and is an asset to our community.”
Dearborn Councilman Mark Shooshanian states, “Michael Albano has been very positive about Dearborn, he has been involved in many issues as a citizen, and he has great passion for Dearborn and its citizens. Therefore, I believe Michael would be a great city councilman.”

Let’s start here: The gentle town Dearborn is mis-named. I propose that the city be re-named Henry Ford, MI as recognition of the contributions or Henry Ford to the nation and in particular to our city., Instead, we have our city nam\ged after someone who never heard of it let alone ever stepped foot in it, General Henry Dearborn. Now he was a righteous dude, I will grant you and served our country well in the Revolutionary War and with a lot less distinction in the War o 1812, when he was basically fired from his position. Now comes a true giant in American history, a man born within the city limits of our town, who built a mammoth enterprise here, kept it here and built his own family home at Fairlane. Henry Ford changed America from this very spot. He was one of us. He lived among us and his company provided a tax base that any city would die for. It provided excess funds for Camp Dearborn and a multitude of city services. His company donated land to all of us, the land of my high school of which was in the first graduating class. Henry Ford built an enterprise right here, a car company that needed no government bail out and a company that provided good jobs at the famous Rouge plant and today still headquarters itself at its Central Staff Building and other building that house engineering, styling, test track and divisional HQ’s. He provided funds for one of the greatest museums in the world – the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village and these bring thousands of tourists every year to see these attractions and to begin a trip to see an automotive assembly plant. Henry Ford had defects-so did General Dearborn. Henry Ford was an anti-Semite. He discovered very late the nature of the swine, Hitler, but he also produced a plant that produced over 400 B-24’s/month in 1944 that help prompt Hitler to place pistol to his temple. The name Henry Ford means something. He means this town that he was born in, the town and the people who he loved and for this most important person, a person who brought the automobile within range of everyone and a living wage to all who worked for him. This town is Henry Ford, Michigan., Leverage that name and let everyone know where he came from, what he did and what they can still see of the American he helped build in the Twentieth Century. Let the people debate this idea., Let them vote on it. Let them live in Henry Ford, Michigan.
