DEARBORN, MI— Students from the Dearborn Area Chamber Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) visited the Picasso Restaurant Group location at the University of Michigan-Dearborn for a behind the scenes look at what it takes to run a successful business franchise.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn location of Picasso Restaurant Group was chosen to help students understand the real possibility of creating a quality branded enterprise that is replicable to serve more customers in more locations across the country. Allen Attee, Vice President of Picasso Restaurant Group shared his own entrepreneurial success story with the students and gave them a personal behind the scenes look at running a successful food service franchise. YEA! students heard where Attee’s business idea came from, what the challenges have been in growing his business and what skills it takes to keep the business running. This field trip taught students the importance of this unique type of business operations and structure.
YEA! is a groundbreaking program that teaches students from all walks of life how to make a job, not just take a job! In addition to lessons inside the classroom, YEA! introduces students to all types of areas of business through field trips, guest lectures, introducing them to business mentors and community leaders.
By engaging in this hands on approach to learning, students are able to identify with what it takes to operate and manage a successful restaurant franchise business and how this applies to starting your own business. These distinctive and engaging field trips make YEA! the unique experience that it is- and takes experiential learning to a whole new level!
The Dearborn Area Chamber is planning three more field trips in 2015 to help students to learn from the exceptional stories and experiences of local entrepreneurs. Planned trips include the marketing firm Team Detroit, a Dearborn-based salon, Hair Designs North to learn about business style, and the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn.
Henry Ford Village in Dearborn is providing field trip transportation, and the 2014-2015 program is sponsored by Sean McGraw-State Farm Agency, Sun Glo Restoration, the Dearborn Rotary Club, RPM Solutions, LLC, the Dearborn Branch of Raymond James, Del Taco, Member Focus Community Credit Union, Charter One Bank, the Kiwanis Club of Dearborn, ACCESS, Center Street Wealth Strategies, Leader Printing and Mailing, Little Caesars of Dearborn, and Biggby Coffee of Dearborn. The University of Michigan-Dearborn is hosting this year’s program on their main campus.
