DEARBORN, Michigan – A rash of recent auto part thefts has neighbors in west Dearborn angry and buzzing on social media. A car window was broken and all four tires stolen from a black GMC Yukon parked in front of a home on Snow Road near Hollywood in Dearborn last night. Police will be meeting with the community tonight at 7:00pm to address concerns.
Mike Mattern encouraged his neighbors: “Take an active role in your community instead of a passive role sitting on the computer complaining because anyone can do that. I challenge those … who complain about the police to get in your car and patrol your neighborhood or to bring back your neighborhood watch in your area. Instead of complaining about it on the internet, be part of the solution.”
Michele Featherston invited all concerned neighbors to “come to the Southwestern Outer Drive Neighborhood Association‘s meeting tonight at Whitmore Bolles at 7:00 p.m. The police will be there.”
“I used to laugh when my husband told me to lock the doors”, remarked Danielle Harris. “Now I find myself driving all the way back home if I think I forgot to lock them.”
Susan Olson said: “Sad that this happened. But, you do know it’s not just Dearborn. In the past week both Grosse Pointe Farms and Sterling Heights have advised their residents to make sure they keep their cars locked, doors and windows locked on their houses because of a rash of break-ins and vandalism.”
In another recent incident at Oxford Apartments, near Outer Drive and Monroe, the wheels were stolen from a white Ford Fusion during the night.
Matt Schulte tried to put a positive spin on the story, indicating that not everything is what it might appear to be: ” I had a neighbor who had a similar thing happen — come to find out he had to pawn his rims for a week to get some much needed cash!”
“Please come to the meeting at Whitmore Bolles tonight at 7:00 p.m.” Michele Featherston reminded again.
