DEARBORN, Michigan – The American Association of University Women will hold their 63rd annual Used Book Sale on September 18th-24th. Thousands of used books, DVD’s and other media related items will be on sale at the Dearborn Ice Skating Arena. With the effort of volunteers throughout the year, books are sorted and organized into categories to make locating areas of interest easier. Assistance with set up prior to the sale will be provided by service clubs from Dearborn, Fordson and Edsel Ford High Schools.
This year’s theme is “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy books.” Ponder that a moment and then consider, not only can you find any number of perfect selections, but all profits of the sale provide funding for scholarships, educational outreach, and charities. So, with that in mind maybe you can buy happiness for AAUW-Dearborn’s biggest fundraiser spreads help in many ways. Beneficiaries include scholarships at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford Community College, as well as community organizations such as the Dearborn Community Fund, Dearborn Historical Museum, First Step, Vista Maria and the Mayor’s Arts Award.
Books are reasonably priced and range from $1-4. A Premier Room will offer a special selection of individually priced books from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century collectibles, as well as special books about Henry Ford, WWI, WWII, and a complete set of 50 Harvard Classics, circa 1910. Also, for sale is a complete set of 54 Britannia Great Books, circa 1952. Tara Gnau, co-chair of the fundraiser says these sets of books were highly sought when they were first published as “people who didn’t have access to higher education were particularly interested, as the books were available in libraries and were grounded with great ideas, literature, and ancient history”.
