DEARBORN, Michigan — The Mother’s Day Tea at Oakwood Common’s retirement community in Dearborn is always a well-attended annual event that gives residents an opportunity to invite daughters, nieces, granddaughters and other family members to enjoy an old fashioned tea party.
More than 215 people attended this year’s celebration that was held on Saturday, May 4. Reminiscent of an English “high tea,” wait staff dressed in Victorian period costumes and served a delicious assortment of petit fours, finger sandwiches, scones and specialty teas.
Residents and guests were seated at tables decorated with fine china and fresh floral bouquets as soft music played in the background, setting the mood for an inviting, elegant event. A photographer was also available to take family group pictures.
“This event is as much fun for our staff as it is for residents and guests,” said Mary Granata, director of sales at Oakwood Common. “It’s like being part of one large family that celebrates lots of wonderful women deserving of recognition.”
