DEARBORN, Michigan – Record high numbers of animals coming through the Shelter’s doors inspired the organization to host another outdoor, tented event. The festivities will be located in the parking lot in front of the new Dearborn Goodwill store at the corner of Michigan avenue and Military. The “Fall in Love” Adopt-A-Thon takes place this Saturday, October 13th from 11am-5pm in partnership with Goodwill, who will be accepting donations of furniture, housewares and gently used clothing.
Elaine Greene, Executive Director, Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter said, “We strive to find homes for the animals in our care as creatively as possible and reaching out to locations that have existing traffic is one of the ways that helps us expand their visibility”. In addition to the adoptable animals in the heated tent, there will be Fido Bakery dog treats for sale, Shelter merchandise and more. Attendees are also welcome to drop by with their canine companions to participate in a dog costume contest at 1pm.
To help encourage families to consider adoption, the Shelter is reducing dog (4 mos +) adoption fees by 50% and cats (4 mos +) are only $5 to adopt, now through Saturday. There will be many animals to choose from that day — cats, kittens, dogs and puppies.
Public Relations Director of Goodwill Detroit, Mark Lane commented, “This is a great way for our Dearborn location to take part with a fellow non-profit organization to help one another. We think it is a perfect partnership to adopt a pet and donate for jobs at the same time”.
