DEARBORN, Michigan – Oakwood Common invites the public to attend a “Musical Holiday Extravaganza” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 to be hosted in the retirement community’s main building at 16351 Rotunda Drive in Dearborn. Proceeds from the event will help to provide prescriptions for needy seniors.
“We are delighted to have the musical talents of the Henry Ford Big Band from Henry Ford Community College perform under the direction of Rick Goward,” said Mary Granata, Oakwood Common’s manager of sales. “This is a wonderful community partnership and event that is open to the public.”
Beginning at 6 p.m. guests will be welcomed with music by a brass instrumental quartet along with the opportunity to tour Oakwood Common’s beautiful holiday decorations, sample delicious desserts, decorate a Christmas cookie, and relax by an inviting fireplace with mulled wine, eggnog, spiced apple cider and more.
The holiday concert by the Henry Ford Big Band will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the Rotunda Room.
“We will play a great selection of holiday tunes,” said Goward. “This concert gives us an opportunity to give back and thank our local community, which has given us tremendous support over the years.”
Formed in 1983, the Henry Ford Big Band has performed at major jazz festivals worldwide. Members include young professional musicians, music educators and traditional aged music students who enroll at Henry Ford Community College to continue their performance and study of Big Band literature.
The cost to attend is $20 per person, and reservations are requested by November 28. For more information, email [email protected] or call 800-642-4663.
