DEARBORN, Mich. – Beginning this spring, Oakwood Common will host daytime classes for mosaics, stained glass and watercolor acrylic painting. The classes are offered through Dearborn Public School’s Adult and Community Education program and are open to the community as well as Oakwood Common residents.
The daytime enrichment classes are part of a renewed partnership between Oakwood Common and Dearborn Public Schools. Classes will be held in the craft and Rotunda rooms of Oakwood Common, located at 16351 Rotunda in Dearborn.
“Oakwood Common has a beautiful and centrally located community to host and add to the variety of classes we offer,” said Ron Gutkowski, assistant superintendent and director of Adult and Community Education for Dearborn Public Schools. “Our enrichment classes are typically held during the evening hours at local schools. Having the space availability at Oakwood Common for daytime classes is a real bonus.”
According to Oakwood Common’s Activity Director Delfina Mauricio, their residents will also benefit from having access to the classes within their community.
“We provide lots of activities and special events for residents throughout the year, and these classes add to the variety we can offer,” said Mauricio. “We look forward to welcoming others, who may be unfamiliar with the beautiful facilities we have available for classes like these.”
The four classes currently scheduled at Oakwood Common are Renaissance Mosaics from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 and 22; Stained Glass introductory lecture from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8; Switchable Nightlight (stained glass) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29; and Watercolor Acrylic painting with six sessions from 9 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. beginning Thursday, April 28, 2011.
