DEARBORN, Michigan – The Dearborn Chamber of Commerce offers effective networking, business appreciation and a high profile expo at its Business Recognition Award Luncheon & Expo, April 29, 2011. Presenting sponsor is Ford Land and the event location is The Henry (formerly the Ritz Carlton), Dearborn, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. This year, the Chamber will honor Oakwood Healthcare and Oakwood Midwest Medical Center with the Legacy Award, which exemplifies a community partner through community services, volunteerism, investment, financial support or extraordinary business practices.

Located within the new Dearborn Town Center development, the Oakwood Midwest Medical Center provides citizens of Dearborn, Detroit and southeast Michigan with comprehensive healthcare services including: 24-hour walk-in urgent care, primary and multi-specialty medical care, state-of-the-art imaging technologies, and on-site laboratory and pharmacy, operating rooms, enhanced corporate health and occupational medicine programs, as well as a restaurant and retail amenities. The facility opened officially for patient service in January 2011.

Midwest is part of a multi-specialty corporation established by Dr. Mark Saffer in 1981, which was acquired by Oakwood in January 2009. Dr. Saffer, who has been recognized for his innovation of healthcare delivery models, oversees the day-to-day management of all Midwest facilities and will also lead the new Dearborn center.
The new Midwest Medical Center is one of several components of the new $80 million Dearborn Town Center development project. Oakwood and REDICO Development Company jointly own the medical office development, which will span more than 125,000 square feet of the development, which also includes a five-level, 530-space public parking structure owned by the city of Dearborn. Future phases of the project include an assisted living facility for seniors and a multi-level building for retail and office space.
“The Oakwood/Midwest story and its impact on Dearborn is one that no one tires of hearing at this time of economic rebuilding and regrowth,” says Dearborn Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board Eddie Fakhoury.
The Business Recognition Luncheon & Expo connects and showcases organizations in the Dearborn community. This year two breakout sessions will be offered from 10-10:45am by Comcast and DMC Harper Hospital and are free to expo attendees. The luncheon will highlight businesses which are celebrating milestone anniversaries, from 5 years to 180 years. The expo will feature companies promoting their products and services to more than 300 business owners, community leaders and corporate professionals.
The luncheon will also honor Bob Curran of Century 21 Curran & Christie with its Excellence in Leadership Award and adds a new Community Excellence Award, which will be given to Kearns Brothers, a home remodeling giant in Dearborn for 25 years.
