The Glass Academy will host the 2nd annual Glass Pumpkin Fest on October 16th & 17th from 11am-4pm. This weekend festival will feature more than 500 hand-blown glass pumpkins of various colors, sizes, and shapes for sale. Each one will be unique and individual, so customers can pick their own personal favorites and start a collection. This is an all ages’ show with free admission. The event will be held at the Glass Academy, www.Glassacademy.com, located at 25331 Trowbridge, near Gulley Road and Michigan Avenue in West Dearborn.
“Visitors will enjoy live glass blowing demonstrations and the opportunity to commission pumpkins of their choice during this two day event”, states Lisa Neitzer, Operations and Planning Manager of the Glass Academy. “We decorate for fall with glass pumpkins tucked among the bales of hay and corn stalks. The whole studio will be transformed! Shoppers can select from fantasy pumpkins, contemporary ones, traditional styles, and even a limited edition style created just for 2010.”
“Since all our pumpkins are made locally right here in Dearborn, it’s a great way to support your community and the people that work in your city making art.” says owner Chris Nordin.
New this year, look for the custom embossed “F” on every pumpkin, which stands for Furnace Design Studio. This will identify pumpkins made at the Dearborn studio, and is a great way for collectors to show off the origin of each pumpkin to other collectors and friends.
Although there will be no real pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, the different arrays of colors, sizes, and styles of our glass blown pumpkins will make you think there are. “I’m always delighted and amazed at the different varieties that I see here. I don’t know how they do it!” Says Gertrude Wagner, a long time customer and supporter of the Glass Academy. Items for sale will range in price from $10 to $500 with several museum quality pieces produced by Artist Chris Nordin available for the discerning collector.
There will also be a private preview party on Thursday, October 14th from 6-9pm. Tickets are $50 and include live music, warm pumpkin pie, beverages, and the opportunity to get first pick of the best pumpkins. Tickets can be purchased on line.
