DEARBORN, MI – Civil War Reenactors from across the country are gathering at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day – and remember America’s Civil War. The special Civil War Remembrance will take place May 29-31.
The video shows highlights from last year’s Civil War re-enactment.
It’s promoted as “Greenfield Village’s most treasured signature event.”
“Memorial Day weekend is filled with high emotions and vivid experiences as we honor veterans who fought and died to preserve our nation’s freedom. More than 450 military reenactors create an authentic Civil War encampment for an observance filled with parades, artillery demonstrations and heartfelt 19th-century music.”
The special event runs from May 29 – 31, and the Village has extended hours on Saturday night, when they are open until 9:00PM.
Other special activities include performances by the Dodworth Saxhorn Band – America’s premier 19th century brass ensemble. They’ll perform a variety of music popular at the time of the Civil War. The Camp Chase Drum and Fife Corps will also be performing.
Several Dramatic presentations will also be performed, including “The Breath of Emancipation” on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday afternoons at the Hermitage Slave Quarters.
